Looking for a fun, interesting and challenging visit for your family during the school summer holidays? This summer, why not bring your family to the Contact and Education Centre in Queensferry to take part in our Fantastic Forth Future Engineers Programme. Find out what it takes to be an engineer through engaging challenges for all ages, walking the Forth Road Bridge or completing a Family Quest to gain your Certificate of Achievement.

Fantastic Forth Future Engineers Summer Fun

Monday to Friday - 1st July to 9th August 2019

The Contact and Education Centre in South Queensferry is hosting a range of fun engineering related activities for young people and families Monday to Friday between 1st July and 9th August 2019.

The ‘Fantastic Forth Future Engineers’ Summer Programme showcases the Forth Bridges  encouraging young people and families to ‘take a closer look at what it takes to be an engineer.

All activities are offered FREE of charge and build on the Forth Replacement Crossing project’s successful outreach and education programme.

The range activities on offer are aimed at young people of all ages including:

Forth Bridges’ Family Quest

Monday, Thursday and Friday: 10.00 – 12.00 and 1.00 – 3.00.

The ‘Fantastic Forth Future Engineers’ Family Quest offers families opportunities to undertake problem solving and work together as a team to explore the Project Exhibition within the Contact and Education Centre and to go out on to the Forth Road Bridge and learn all about the unique setting of the fantastic three Forth bridges constructed in three different centuries.

No pre-booking is required.

Future Engineers Bridge Walk

Monday - Friday: 10.00 – 12.00 and 1.00 – 3.00.

The ‘Fantastic Forth - Future Engineers’ Bridge Walk encourages families to take the opportunity to walk across the Forth Road Bridge to explore its scale and structure whilst marvelling at its bridge neighbours and considering the differences between the three magnificent bridges that span three centuries.

On completion of this challenge, report to the Contact and Education Centre to find out if you are a lucky ‘Fantastic Forth Future Engineers’ Certificate of Achievement winner.

No pre-booking is required.

Explore Engineering Taster Workshops

Tuesday and Wednesday: 10.00 – 12.00 and 1.00 – 3.00

Ages: 9 - 14

The workshops aim to encourage and motivate young people to consider skills required to become future engineers.  The sessions will include a series of inspiring engineering challenges led by engineers from different areas of the Queensferry Crossing project and Transport Scotland.

Booking for your workshop can be made via Frcenquiries@transport.gov.scot Please provide the NAME and DATE OF BIRTH of your future engineers and provide a list of your PREFERRED DATES (1st, 2nd and 3rd choice options) for the workshop. Places are limited on each workshop.

On successful completion of an Engineering Workshop, participants will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement.

Women into Engineering Workshops

Tuesday and Wednesday: 10.00 – 12.00 and 1.00 – 3.00

Ages: 9 - 14

Forth Family Fun

Thursday - Friday : 10.00 – 12.00 and 1.00 – 3.00

A selection of family friendly activities for all age groups will be available within the Project Exhibition Area including:

  • Bridge Design and Build Challenge
  • Tower Construction Challenge
  • Lego Challenge
  • Queensferry Crossing Deck Construction Challenge
  • Queensferry Crossing Cable Stayed Bridge Model Making

Each activity will take approximately 45 – 60 minutes to complete.

No booking required.

Please note that a parent/guardian will retain full responsibility for their  young people at the Contact and Education Centre at all times.
